The Firefighter, under the direction of the assigned supervisor, performs fire suppression and emergency medical services in response to emergency calls. Requirements

  • Must have either a High School diploma or GED.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Applicant must have a valid New Mexico driver’s license by employment date.
  • Successful completion of a post-offer employment medical examination.
  • Adherence to all County safety guidelines.
  • Complete all FEMA training(s) assigned to this position.
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver’s license by the date of hire and maintenance of a valid license while employed in this position.
  • Complete required supervisor training, if applicable.
  • Applicant must pass the physical agility test.
  • Applicant must pass an oral interview board.
  • Applicant must successfully complete the post-offer employment medical examination to include compliance with the State of New Mexico’s OSHA physical, and background investigation.
  • Applicant must disclose a past injury or medical condition that could prevent them from successfully carrying out the requirements of the job for which they are applying for.
  • Must have and maintain valid certification as a New Mexico Emergency Medical Technician Basic, Intermediate, or Paramedic by the end of probation.
  • A NM driver’s license class E will be required within 45 days of hire and employee must maintain a valid NM driver’s license, class E, while employed in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Control and extinguish fires and protect life and property.
  • Responds to calls for medical services and administers emergency medical treatment at the level of earned licensure according to approved protocols and standard of care and assists in patient transport when needed.
  • Participates in fire prevention activities, to include inspection of buildings and development of pre-fire plans.
  • Prepares and compiles necessary documentation to support duties and responsibilities.
  • Maintains apparatus, quarters, buildings, equipment, grounds, and hydrants at assigned station.
  • Participates in public education activities, and participates in on-duty training, both as student and instructor, as needed.
  • Develops and maintains proficiency in hydraulics/pump operations and aerial operations.
  • Drives apparatus to scenes of emergencies.
