Student Engineering Intern (Structural)
About The Position
RESPEC is seeking a Student Engineer (Structural) for its Summer Internship 2027 program in the Morgantown, West Virginia office. This temporary, part-time internship is a hands-on design position in the Facilities (Structural) Market Sector. The intern will work alongside full-time employees, receive mentoring and coaching, and learn how professional engineering services are provided to clients. The role offers exposure to clients, job sites, and communities, as well as collaboration with RESPEC’s multidisciplinary team on public- and private-sector projects. The schedule is during the summer months, at 40 hours per week. Compensation depends on experience. No benefits are offered except those required for statutory purposes.
Requirements
- Pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in civil engineering.
Nice To Haves
- Solid time-management skills and the ability to produce accurate, high-quality work efficiently.
- Coursework in steel, wood, concrete, and precast/prestressed concrete design.
- Good working knowledge of fundamental structural engineering concepts.
- Self-motivated and detail-oriented.
- Strong problem-solving and math skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Team player who strives to provide quality work.
- Some proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit.
Responsibilities
- Assist with design work.
- Perform calculations and simulations.
- Research topics as assigned.
- Assist with field inspections.
