About The Position

AS Project Connect Recruitment and Retention Center’s philosophy is creating opportunities for networking, navigating, and making college transition easier. Project Connect exists to empower and involve the student body to promote higher education and facilitate graduation for low-income and historically underrepresented communities. Project Connect is an equity and social justice program that strives to impact future generations of SF State students by sharing with them university life experiences and campus resources. Project Connect has four (4) departments: Book Loan, Outreach, Retention, and Internship. The Book Loan Department offers free textbooks, e-books, access codes, i-clickers, and other academic resources to all SFSU students in need. Students submit an application and can request up to three textbooks each semester.

Requirements

  • Must be a student at SFSU currently enrolled in at least 6 units for undergraduates or 4 units for graduates.
  • Awareness of issues specific to under-represented communities.
  • Completion of a course in any department of the College Ethnic Studies pertaining to Educational Equity issues, Critical Thinking, Children and Youth Culture and/or Ethnic Studies Community Service Learning component preferred.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, organizational and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of SFSU campus, admissions, financial aid, student outreach services, EOP and other Recruitment programs and related services.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in working with children/youth preferred.
  • Prior experience in organizing and scheduling special events.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the promotion of the AS Scholarships through scholarship workshops, tabling, etc. and directly supports students with the application process through 1:1 meetings
  • Collaborates with AS Programs, student organizations, and campus departments, as well as, promotes Associated Students services and tracks student participation
  • Updates the Project Connect Monthly Newsletter, including announcements, resources, upcoming events, and student engagement opportunities.
  • Serve as a liaison for students and campus partners to share resources and services, while providing timely and professional communication
  • Support outreach initiatives for resources such as AS scholarships, Book Loan, Gator Groceries, and other AS Program's services
  • Coordinates Project Connect’s external event requests and schedules team presentations, tabling events, and workshop requests to engage the student body
  • Participate in staff meetings and assist in the preparation of monthly reports to track program progress and student engagement outcomes
  • Maintain the Project Connect resource table and provide a welcoming office environment to support student services and daily operations
