About The Position

This position reflects a continuous hiring need. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis, and qualified candidates are encouraged to apply while the posting remains active. This is a part-time student employee position that works around your class schedule. May work up to 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters. During summer and holiday breaks (Winter/Spring), may work up to 28 hours per week with supervisor approval.

Requirements

• GPA of 2.0 or above.
• Must be enrolled at JJC in at least 6 credit hours during fall/spring semester.
• Completing a Horticulture Degree.
• Willingness to work flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
• Good oral/written communication, organization and time management skills
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.

Nice To Haves

• Some experience in greenhouse and garden related work.
• Valid Driver’s license.
• Self-starter, able to work independently.
• English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.
• Demonstrated multicultural competence.

Responsibilities

• Irrigation of greenhouses and gardens including weekends.
• Transplanting and propagating of collections and crops.
• Plant sales, customer relations, money handling.
• Maintenance: weeding, cleaning, installations, mulching, deliveries.
• Record keeping of crops, deliveries, chemical applications.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
