About The Position

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has an opening for Camp Team Leader – Arts & Culture for the summer of 2026. This position will start approximately June 22, 2026, for a period up to September 4, 2026. To qualify for this summer student position, students must currently be enrolled in school full-time for the 2025/2026 winter term (normally ending April, May or June) and/or returning to school full-time in the 2026 fall term (normally starting in August or September). The Camp Team Leader position is responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating a high-quality summer children’s camp program for registered participants. In addition, summer camp Team Leaders will be required to actively supervise all program activities including lunch.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in school full-time for the 2025/2026 winter term and/or returning to school full-time in the 2026 fall term
  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
  • Be 16 years of age or older to apply
  • Previous experience working as a Camp Leader (or other similar camp environment)
  • Previous experience working with children 6 years of age or older (preferably in a recreation program environment)
  • Current Certification in Standard First Aid/CPR (WSIB approved) prior to camps opening
  • Certified with the High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development prior to camps opening
  • Furnish an original Police Information Search (criminal reference check) (working with vulnerable persons) prior to commencement of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Enrolled in first year or above in post-secondary education in a recreation or child and youth related program
  • One or more years of experience in the field of program planning

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate Chatham-Kent’s core values and competencies
  • Lead a team of camp leaders in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment
  • Ensure staff team is actively engaged in all aspects of program planning, set-up, conducting activities and actively participating in activities including swimming, clean-up and evaluation
  • Act as a resource and support for staff in areas where development is required
  • Follow policies and procedures in place relevant to the position
  • Communicate with parents as required
  • May be required to modify activities to ensure age appropriateness
  • Will be required to take the lead on managing participant behaviours
  • Coordinate the planning, implementation and evaluation of a summer camp program
  • Daily activities generally include: Active Games, Arts and Crafts, Drama Activities, Fitness Breaks, Swimming/ Water Play
  • Implement the philosophies of HIGH FIVE
  • Coordinate all administrative duties for their specific site
  • Work both indoors and outdoors.
