About The Position

The Student Athlete Academic Support Assistant is part of the Student Athlete Resource Center’s (SARC) Academic Support Services. Student Athlete Academic Support Assistants provide academic and overall program support in the form of one-on-one mentoring meetings, academic center/study hall monitoring, academic tracking, and serve as a resource for onboarding student-athletes. Student Athlete Academic Support Assistants meet with each of their assigned students at least once a week to review their academic progress. In these meetings, the academic support intern discusses and reviews the student’s academic progress by reviewing their coursework, syllabi, study skills, time management, class attendance, assignments, and tests. Academic Support Assistants may also provide tutoring, schedule and/or refer out to campus tutoring resources – assisting the athlete in connecting with the support services necessary. Academic Support Interns report their students’ academic progress, meeting attendance, and other pertinent information to the full-time SARC staff. This can include compiling weekly reports with student-athlete academic status updates to be shared with the respective coaching staff via email or in-person team staff meetings. Academic Support Interns may also provide support in student-athlete onboarding strategies which can include learning assessments, online class platform tutorials, class schedule review and textbook acquisition. These efforts contribute to the Sacramento State retention and graduation success rate initiatives.
