About The Position

The Jackson School of Geosciences is seeking a detail-oriented, organized, and personable Student Associate to support our front desk in the Holland Student Family Center Student Affairs Office (JGB 2.102), located in-person on the UT Main campus. This individual works with a Student Affairs team, which includes Academic Advisors, Career Services, Graduate Coordinators, speaking with high school students and their families, assisting with student organization management and/or scholarships, undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and administrators across the Jackson School. There is regular engagement with various campus partners, academic departments, prospective students, and members of the community. A competitive candidate for this position is someone who exemplifies a service-oriented approach; exercising professionalism, integrity, and critical thinking in a frequently visited office.

Requirements

  • Ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear to perform essential functions.
  • Must be student in good standing academically and be currently enrolled in UT coursework during all fall and spring semesters of employment.

  • Experience working in a customer-service oriented workplace.
  • Prior administrative or office experience (e.g. answering phones, email, and other clerical duties).
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of UT systems and resources on campus.
  • Ability to work consistent schedule between 10-20 hours per week during fall/spring semesters, with an option to work future summers if desired.

Responsibilities

  • Daily front-of-house responsibilities (answering phones, responding to email-based inquiries, scheduling appointments, checking in appointments, opening and closing suite, assisting with events, maintaining organization of front desk, suite, and workspaces, and greeting/assisting members of the UT community).
  • Phone call campaigns (assist prospective and newly admitted first-year and transfer students with their next steps).
  • Clerical duties (data entry, updating reports, scanning and filing forms, and assembling materials for school activities).
  • Assist with JSG Gear Outfitters initiative (e.g. check in/out gear, set up/pack down camping gear to assess quality or damage, replace missing items, etc.).
  • Maintain cleanliness of shared spaces and stock common areas with food or beverages.
  • Various duties as assigned
