About The Position

The College of Arts and Letters IT team at CSUSB is searching for a student employee to assist in providing technical support for the faculty, staff, and students from 9 departments. The student assistant will work directly with the Head IT Consultant to ensure the smooth operation of all printers, computers, and any other electronic devices for the college. The student assistant will also assist with updating, maintaining, and repairing several computer labs across campus. This includes installing software, replacing mice and keyboards, and cleaning the physical machine for both Mac and Windows. Work hours will be decided at the beginning of each quarter, depending on the student’s class schedule. A maximum of 20 hours per week may be worked when the class schedule allows it. The student assistant will primarily be working in University Hall, but tasks are frequently given all over campus.

Requirements

  • Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.
  • Admission or registration as a CSU student.
  • Maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or greater per semester and cumulative.
  • Students must be enrolled in at least halftime units at CSUSB (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate)
  • International students must have full-time enrollment at CSUSB. (12 units undergraduate; 6 units graduate)
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Social Security Card
  • Ability to comfortably use and troubleshoot both Mac and Windows machines.
  • Basic knowledge of systems networking (IP, MAC, Subnet mask)
  • Familiarity with printer maintenance (Resolving paper jams, replacing toner cartridges, and paper)

Nice To Haves

  • Major: Computer Science, Systems, Engineering
  • Currently enrolled or previously taken CSE3650 and CSE3650 classes are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Taking phone calls and making appointments.
  • Assisting Faculty/Staff with their various computer issues in person or remotely
  • Resolving printer issues
  • Replacing hardware
  • Repairing/upgrading machines
  • Maintaining Lab / Faculty / Staff computers (desktops / laptops / tablets)
  • Resolve security vulnerabilities
  • Checking the hostname / IP address
  • Updating the operating system/software
  • Creating / updating FOG deployment images for various labs to deploy when needed
  • Add / update items in our inventory system
  • Following and updating documentation procedures
