About The Position

This work-study student position meets the daily emotional and physical needs of children in an assigned classroom and supports teachers as needed. The position works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for initiative and independent judgment. Training and instruction are provided. The student must have received and accepted a work-study award and meet the university’s enrollment requirements for student employment. Student assistants may not simultaneously hold another type of position, such as a graduate assistantship or temporary casual employment.

Requirements

Meet the minimum education requirements for admission as a student at Stephen F. Austin State University.
Receive and accept a Work-Study Permit for each semester worked.
Have a work-study award.
Be enrolled in at least six semester hours during the fall or spring, or be enrolled in at least three semester hours or registered for courses in the upcoming fall semester during the summer.
Knowledge of general office and clerical procedures and concepts.
Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records and files.
Ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, university faculty and staff, and the general public.
Ability to create projects for children in the classroom.
Ability to understand and follow instructions.
Ability to operate equipment such as thermometers, a dishwasher, a dryer, and a telephone.

Responsibilities

Greet parents and gather information about their children.
Support teachers as necessary and provide children with tasks, supplies, projects, food, and snacks as needed.
Attend to children’s needs and interact with them.
Launder children’s clothing as needed.
Clean, sanitize, and disinfect toys and equipment as needed.
Provide activities for children, including outside play, walks, and trips.
Complete and file accident reports as needed.
Complete other required paperwork.
Clean the assigned classroom and play yard.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
