About The Position

This is a part-time (20-25 hours/week) temporary position available immediately for a college or high school student interested in working in a virology research laboratory. The role involves assisting researchers with experiments, maintaining the lab, and performing general laboratory tasks.

Requirements

• Must be a college or high school student.
• Interest in working in a virology research laboratory.
• Ability to help maintain the lab by cleaning glassware.
• Ability to autoclave glassware.
• Ability to box up biological waste for stericycle pick-up.
• Ability to assist researchers with experiments involving collecting and processing samples from pigs or calves (bleeding, inoculations, injections, collecting nasal, tonsil, and rectal swabs).
• Ability to feed and clean animal rooms.
• Ability to record samples and results.
• Ability to perform computer work.
• Ability to create inventory of samples stored in freezers and liquid nitrogen tanks.
• Ability to update freezer inventory.
• Ability to perform other general laboratory work (preparing buffers, cleaning samples, aliquoting reagents, autoclaving materials, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Help maintain the lab by cleaning glassware.
