About The Position

This position exists to support a counseling program that addresses academic, personal/social, and career development by implementing and enhancing a program that promotes student achievement. The objectives of the school program are outlined in the Polk County Developmental Guidance Plan and include services to students, parents, staff, and the community. The comprehensive developmental school counseling program provides education, prevention, intervention, and advocacy. The Student Advisor aligns with the district's mission to support the academic achievement of all students, insuring equity and access to all. The Student Advisor facilitates the successful transition and progression of students throughout the system; works with the School Counselor and school administration to develop and maintain a written plan for effective delivery of the school counseling program. Direct services address course placement, individual student planning, prevention, MTSS meetings, monitoring student academic progress, and development and implementation of 504 plans. The Student Advisor works with students individually and in groups and provides consultation to teachers and other school personnel regarding students and collaborates with the School Counselor and school administration to make referrals as appropriate.

Requirements

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Education or hold a Florida teaching certificate.
Minimum of 3 years of successful teaching experience as evidenced by effective or highly effective ratings or equivalent experience.
Sign an Agreement to Earn a minimum of 12 semester credit hours per calendar year towards a master's in a state-approved program for school counseling.
Pass the PK-12 School Counseling Subject Area Exam.
Be certified in School Counseling within 12 months of completing coursework.
