About The Position

This summer 2027 collegiate internship supports structural design engineering at Gulfstream in Savannah. The Structural Design Engineer team develops configurations and initial layouts, designs detail parts, assemblies, and installations, and supports aircraft programs from initial development through product type certification. The team also sustains in-production aircraft, investigates fleet issues and customer requests, and collaborates with stress analysts, systems design engineers, test engineers, manufacturing engineers, production-floor support personnel, and regulatory agents. The intern will support the design, development, and evaluation of advanced composite aircraft structures and components. Relevant subject matter includes composite material properties, laminate construction, anisotropic behavior, failure modes, design allowables, manufacturing methods, ply orientation, load transfer, joint design, producibility, and inspection methods. Successful candidates demonstrate teamwork, communicate technical concepts effectively, contribute to group problem-solving, work across engineering disciplines, and take ownership of assignments while collaborating with peers, mentors, and customers. The position is onsite in Savannah, is a first-shift collegiate internship, and requires reliable transportation. The internship lasts at least 12 weeks in summer. Juniors complete two rotations; seniors and graduate students complete one rotation. Travel may be up to 25%.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled as a full-time student when applying and actively pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher.

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, without rounding; GPA must be listed on the resume.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must work onsite; the position is not remote.
  • Academic coursework or project experience involving composite materials, including material properties, laminate construction, anisotropic behavior, failure modes, design allowables, and manufacturing methods.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a team through engineering projects, student organizations, research, competitions, or other collaborative technical activities.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively, contribute to group problem-solving, and collaborate across engineering disciplines.
  • Self-motivation and ability to take ownership of assignments while collaborating with peers, mentors, and customers.
  • Junior, senior, or graduate-level student; juniors complete two rotations, while seniors and graduate students complete one rotation.
  • Minimum internship duration is 12 weeks for summer; spring and fall internships last 14–16 weeks.
