About The Position

Gulfstream’s Summer 2027 Structures/Structural Design College Intern will support the Structural Design Engineering team (Department 651). The team develops configurations, lays out initial designs, designs detail parts, assemblies, and installations, and supports aircraft programs from initial development through product type certification. It also sustains in-production aircraft and investigates fleet issues and customer requests. The internship will support the design, development, and evaluation of advanced composite aircraft structures and components. Candidates should have coursework or project experience with composite materials, including material properties, laminate construction, anisotropic behavior, failure modes, design allowables, and manufacturing methods. Familiarity with ply orientation, load transfer, joint design, producibility, and inspection methods is highly desired. Interns work with technical peers across disciplines, including stress analysis, systems design, testing, manufacturing, production-floor support, and regulatory teams. The role calls for collaboration, effective communication of technical concepts, contribution to group problem-solving, and initiative in taking ownership of assignments while working with peers, mentors, and customers. The position is onsite in Savannah, is not remote, and requires reliable transportation. The internship lasts at least 12 weeks in summer. Juniors complete two rotations; seniors and graduate students complete one rotation.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled as a full-time student at the time of application and actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • Must have completed sophomore year before the internship start date.
  • Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0, without rounding; GPA must be listed on the resume.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Must work onsite; this is not a remote position.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Typical majors include Aerospace Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Coursework or project experience involving composite materials, including material properties, laminate construction, anisotropic behavior, failure modes, design allowables, and manufacturing methods.
  • Demonstrated experience in a collaborative team environment, such as engineering projects, student organizations, research, or competitions.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively, contribute to group problem-solving, and work across engineering disciplines.
  • Self-motivation and willingness to take ownership of assignments while collaborating with peers, mentors, and customers.
  • Preferred coursework includes Detail Structural Design, Preliminary Structural Design, Mechanics of Materials, Structural Analysis, Statics and Mechanics, Aerodynamics, Mechanics of Machines, or Machine Design.

Nice To Haves
