About The Position

Hot Section Engineering (HSE) at Pratt & Whitney is currently looking for an entry-level Engineer in Structures Engineering to join our team in support of commercial and military gas turbine engines. In HSE, we are responsible for the design, analysis and validation of the Combustor/Diffuser, Turbine, Augmenter and Exhaust Nozzle jet engine components which operate at substantially elevated temperatures. This role is part of the Engineering Development Program (EDP), where participants complete three to four rotations to build technical breadth and leadership abilities before graduating from the program.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree, or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering with 2 years experience obtained by start date.
  • Experience with the following: Finite Element Modeling Programs (ANSYS), Analysis of stresses for Calculation of Life and Strength
  • Minimum 3.0 Cumulative GPA
  • Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Nice To Haves

  • Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering Degree.
  • Prior RTX internship, co-op, or work experience

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, research, and develop metallic, non-metallic or composite structural materials for product design and operation.
  • Engage in mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical tests of our structural materials.
  • Collaborate in multi-discipline teams to provide design solutions to balance customer requirements for durability, performance, cost and weight.
  • Plan and cover validation testing (engine & rig) and data-reduction.
  • Support production and in-service field investigations
  • Utilize finite-element and classical methods to perform strength, stress/deflection, vibration, fatigue life, damage tolerance, containment, kinematic and optimization analyses.
