About The Position

Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) is seeking Structures Design Engineers (Associate or Mid-Level) to join our 777X Propulsion Structures team in North Charleston, South Carolina. Our team is currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including Associate (Level 2) and Mid-Level (Level 3) Structures Design Engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus on Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace Aeronautical or Material Sciences)
  • 2+ years of experience with aircraft structural design
  • 2+ years of experience using CAD Tools
  • Successful candidates for this job must satisfy the Company’s Conflict of Interest (COI) assessment process.

Nice To Haves

  • Level 3: 5+ years of experience with aircraft structural design
  • 3+ years of experience with design of composite material systems
  • Demonstrated autonomy while working with technical teams and projects
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Prior experience with manufacturing/production systems
  • Expertise using CATIA and Model Based Definition (MBD) for engine inlet or fan cowl structure design
  • Experience designing and qualifying composite primary and secondary structures, including laminate design, ply-drop strategies, and structural strength considerations
  • Hands on experience with fabrication of metallic and composite structures

Responsibilities

  • Assists to develop, integrate and document structural and interior payload system requirements to establish the system design.
  • Develops, maintains and modifies basic structural and interior payload system and component designs, using 3-D Computer Aided Design tools and/or other design methods, to provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Performs tests to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications.
  • Assists with or manages supplier development, test and production activities and coordination with the supplier to optimize the design and achieve program goals.
  • Supports or manages the investigation of emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements.
  • Develops new design/analysis processes and tools to improve the effectiveness, quality and efficiency of the development effort.
  • Works under general supervision or direction.
