About The Position

Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) is seeking Structures Design Engineers (Associate or Mid-Level) to join our 777X Propulsion Structures team in North Charleston, South Carolina. Our team is currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including Associate (Level 2) and Mid-Level (Level 3) Structures Design Engineers. This role involves developing, integrating, and documenting structural and interior payload system requirements, maintaining and modifying designs using CAD tools, performing tests, and coordinating with suppliers. The position also supports the investigation of emerging technologies and the development of new design processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus on Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace Aeronautical or Material Sciences)
  • 2+ years of experience with aircraft structural design
  • 2+ years of experience using CAD Tools
  • Must satisfy the Company’s Conflict of Interest (COI) assessment process.
  • Must meet U.S. export control compliance requirements. A “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.62 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Nice To Haves

  • Level 3: 5+ years of experience with aircraft structural design
  • 3+ years of experience with design of composite material systems
  • Demonstrated autonomy while working with technical teams and projects
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Prior experience with manufacturing/production systems
  • Expertise using CATIA and Model Based Definition (MBD) for engine inlet or fan cowl structure design
  • Experience designing and qualifying composite primary and secondary structures, including laminate design, ply-drop strategies, and structural strength considerations
  • Hands-on experience with fabrication of metallic and composite structures

Responsibilities

  • Develops, integrates, and documents structural and interior payload system requirements to establish the system design.
  • Develops, maintains, and modifies basic structural and interior payload system and component designs using 3-D Computer Aided Design tools and/or other design methods.
  • Provides product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers, and external customers throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Performs tests to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications.
  • Assists with or manages supplier development, test, and production activities and coordination with the supplier to optimize the design and achieve program goals.
  • Supports or manages the investigation of emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements.
  • Develops new design/analysis processes and tools to improve the effectiveness, quality, and efficiency of the development effort.
  • Works under general supervision or direction.
