About The Position

Valmont is hiring a Welder I in its Global Utility Division to weld metal components used to fabricate or repair products according to layouts, blueprints, or work orders. The role uses brazing and a variety of arc and gas welding equipment, with a focus on structural welding for steel electrical poles, substations, and other structures. Available schedules are 2nd shift Monday through Thursday, 5:00 p.m. to 3:30 a.m.; 4th shift Friday through Sunday, 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; and 5th shift Friday through Sunday, 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Starting pay is $26.24 per hour, with potential to reach $28.60 per hour by the six-month anniversary and a $2.00-per-hour differential for night shift.

Requirements

• At least one month of hands-on welding experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, or professional environment.
• Successful completion of an internal welding test.
• Ability to perform basic math, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
• Working knowledge of fixturing and weld setup parameters, including amps and volts.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Ability to read and comprehend blueprints, including weld requirement symbology.
• One year of experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural welding by fusing metal components using arc welding processes to fabricate steel electrical poles, substations, and other structures.
• Carry out welding operations requiring limited planning, layout work, and interpretation of blueprints and written specifications to determine the operation sequence.
• Perform welding activities involving moderate safety and load requirements while working in a single position.
• Move pole shafts and materials using an overhead crane.
• Perform other duties as assigned by leadership and management.
• Participate in department safety initiatives and follow Valmont safety policies and procedures.
• Learn and apply Valmont fitting processes within the first 6–12 months of employment.
