About The Position

Plan, lay out, weld, install, and repair structural steel products in accordance with applicable plans, specifications, welding codes, and industry standards. The role involves setting up and operating welding equipment, welding metal components to specified requirements, and repairing welds as needed. Work takes place in a construction or industrial environment, with changing outdoor weather, noise, dust, confined or cluttered spaces, and uneven surfaces. The position may require access to work areas at heights using ladders, mechanical platforms, manlifts, or scaffolds.

Requirements

• Must pass a Structural Weld Test.
• Must be able to pass pre-access drug and alcohol testing, a fit-for-duty medical examination, and a background check.
• Must be able to perform the physical activities required on a construction or industrial site, including standing, walking, sitting, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
• Must be able to climb and maintain balance on formwork, steel formwork, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds; work areas may exceed 200 feet in height.
• Must be able to work in confined and cluttered spaces, on uneven surfaces, and in noisy and dusty environments.
• May be required to move items weighing up to 50 pounds across a construction or industrial site.
• Must be able to work irregular hours, weekends, overtime, and holidays as required.

Responsibilities

• Set up, troubleshoot, and operate welding machines according to job specifications and welding procedures.
• Preheat and weld metal components according to blueprints, welding symbols, job specifications, or welding procedures.
• Weld using FCAW-S, FCAW-G, TGAW, GMAW, SMAW, and SAW processes.
• Operate an air arc gouger, grinder, stress relieving machine, and other industry machines, tools, and equipment.
• Make welding repairs and repair substandard welds.
• Observe and comply with safety and project rules, and perform other duties as required.
