About The Position

Colorado School of Mines is seeking a Structural Trades II team member to help maintain and improve campus facilities through a combination of building maintenance, preventative maintenance, and welding/fabrication work. The role involves performing a wide variety of maintenance, repair, and renovation activities across campus facilities, with the majority of time dedicated to completing work orders and preventative maintenance tasks to keep buildings safe, functional, and visually appealing. The employee will work both independently and as part of a team, partnering closely with supervisors, building occupants, and fellow trades professionals to deliver quality results with minimal disruption to campus operations.

Requirements

  • Four (4) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position, which included experience in building maintenance, structural trades, or related skilled trades work.
  • Working knowledge of construction materials, tools, and repair techniques.
  • Experience performing repairs involving drywall, painting, flooring, doors, carpentry, or building exteriors.
  • Ability to perform welding and basic fabrication work.
  • Basic computer skills, including email and work order management systems.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple assignments.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and quality workmanship.
  • Must be a current employee at Colorado School of Mines.
  • Residency Requirement: Must be a resident of the State of Colorado at the time of submitting your application.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance and repair work on campus buildings and facilities, including drywall repair, installation, finishing, and texturing; interior and exterior painting; flooring repair and replacement; door repairs, adjustments, and hardware installation; basic carpentry and facility repair projects; hanging boards, artwork, and fixtures; exterior building repairs, including roofing, siding, gutters, and concrete work; inspection, troubleshooting, and correction of facility issues before they become larger problems; and completion of assigned work orders while maintaining excellent customer service.
  • Perform maintenance welding using MIG, TIG, ARC, and gas welding processes.
  • Repair components made from steel, steel alloys, and non-ferrous metals.
  • Fabricate replacement parts and components as needed.
  • Select appropriate welding methods, materials, and equipment settings.
  • Safely complete welding projects while minimizing disruption to campus operations.
  • Assist with campus snow removal efforts, including hand shoveling sidewalks and walkways, operating snow blowers and other assigned equipment, and applying ice melt safely and effectively.
  • Support additional departmental needs as assigned.
  • Accurately track labor hours and materials used.
  • Document completed work in the computerized maintenance management system.
  • Update work order records and preventative maintenance activities.
  • Utilize email and other computer systems for communication and workflow management.
