About The Position
Lockport Steel is seeking a skilled Structural Steel Fabricator to join our growing team. The Structural Steel Fabricator is responsible for reading shop drawings and fabricating structural steel components and assemblies according to project specifications. This position plays a vital role in ensuring fabricated steel products meet the highest standards of quality, accuracy, and safety while supporting efficient project execution.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Two or more years of structural steel fabrication experience preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret structural steel fabrication and erection drawings.
- Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication processes and techniques.
- Proficiency using tape measures, squares, levels, and other measuring equipment.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to safely use hand and power tools.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
Nice To Haves
- NCCER Structural Steel Fabricator certification or equivalent trade training preferred.
- Experience working in an AISC-certified structural steel fabrication facility prefrered.
- Forklift certification and overhead crane operation experience.
- Rigging and material handling experience.
- Experience operating CNC fabrication equipment, beam lines, drill lines, saws, and plate processing equipment.
- Working knowledge of AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code fit-up requirements.
- Ability to perform advanced layout work from complex structural steel drawings.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret structural steel fabrication drawings, blueprints, and work orders.
- Measure, mark, lay out, cut, drill, cope, grind, and fit structural steel components.
- Fabricate beams, columns, braces, trusses, stairs, platforms, handrails, and miscellaneous steel assemblies.
- Assemble structural steel components in preparation for welding and final inspection.
- Verify dimensions and ensure fabricated assemblies conform to shop drawings and specifications.
- Operate fabrication equipment, including saws, drill presses, ironworkers, punch equipment, grinders, and other shop machinery.
- Perform material handling and movement of steel using overhead cranes and forklifts.
- Conduct quality checks throughout the fabrication process to ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Maintain production schedules while meeting quality and safety expectations.
- Assist welders and other fabrication personnel as required.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Follow all company safety procedures and OSHA requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
