About The Position

Detail assigned projects in compliance with contract/customer specifications, company policies and/or procedures conforming to the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), American Welding Society (AWS D1.1), MaiCo WPS (Welding Procedure Specifications) standards and MaiCo standard procedures.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Applicable degree in appropriate drafting or detailing field or certification of Vocational Technical course completion in applicable field preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in the detailing of structural steel in compliance with industry standards
  • Accurate knowledge, understanding and efficient uses of Autocad 2004, ShopData Peddinest 4.2 (nesting software) and SheetCAM optimizing software or other applicable software packages.
  • Ability to understand, interpret and communicate complex directions, instructions and other forms of contract and/or customer specifications relative to assigned projects.
  • Technical writing skills
  • Computer skills
  • Math, basic physics, and simple part design skills.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects to meet business requirements and schedule workflow to achieve optimum output.
  • Ability to assess quality of own work and to troubleshoot potential problems as necessary.
  • Demonstrates high degree of professional behavior, appearance, work ethic, attention to detail, honesty and reliability.
  • Demonstrates ability to manage stress constructively and maintain professional, positive, even temperament during periods of frustration, ambiguity and change.
  • Demonstrable skills in interpersonal communication and conflict management.

Responsibilities

  • Detail assigned projects efficiently and professionally using computer-aided drafting programs.
  • Perform duties in compliance with Detailing Standard Procedure.
  • Coordinate with the Detailing Manager/Project Manager to meet production, customer and contractual schedules.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all proprietary information.
  • Interact with engineering, project management, quality control and production and fabrication personnel via the Drafting Manager to answer questions regarding assigned detailing projects.
  • Communicate detailing requirements and progress/ detailing status reports to the Detailing Manager/ Project Manager.
  • Work closely with all detailing department personnel to identify and meet project needs effectively and in a timely manner.
  • Follow appropriate priorities and observe established time requirements.
  • Coordinate workloads to meet departmental goals.
  • Assist in ensuring timely production of required drawings as needed.
  • Provide hands-on training sessions as required.
  • Establish, communicate and monitor personal and departmental performance and improvement goals supporting organizational objectives.
  • Communicate results to Supervisor.
  • Encourage and promote continuous personal development, skill attainment and optimal performance for self and others.
  • Request and follow the priority list from Project Managers.
  • Support and comply with company policies, programs, procedures and/or guidelines during performance of all duties.
  • Report observed instances of non-compliance to the Supervisor.
  • Cooperate with all co-workers and management personnel in all areas and departments.
  • Promote the company's best interests and always contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Demonstrate cost effective use of human and material resources.
  • Actively seek ideas and incorporate improvements to enhance productivity.

  • Proof or check other detailing for accuracy when applicable.
