Our Illinois division is hiring a Structural Project Engineer to work on complex projects in our Chicago, IL, office. The ideal candidate for this role will hold a valid license as a Professional Engineer and be working toward-or has obtained- their Structural Engineer license in Illinois. They will collaborate with a team of professionals, focusing on the analysis, inspection, load rating, and design of bridge structures.

Requirements

  • B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline required.
  • PE License preferred.
  • SE License in Illinois or the ability and plan to obtain.
  • Minimum of 5 years of bridge inspection, analysis, load rating and/or design experience.
  • Progressive experience with developing design drawings and utilizing MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.
  • Strong organization and leadership skills with a track record for adhering to design budgets and schedules.
  • Ability to perform complex analysis and design.
  • Ability to assemble a complete design package for assigned elements or projects.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong communication and client relation skills.

Nice To Haves

  • MS in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis or related discipline preferred.
  • Successful completion of one or more of the following FHWA-NHI courses is preferred but not required: Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges, Fracture Critical Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges
  • Experience working with IDOT, CDOT, ISTHA and/or Chicagoland local agencies preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review structural and geometric calculations for bridge rehabilitation and design projects.
  • Prepare and review finite element analysis models.
  • Prepare and review bridge load rating reports to DOT standards.
  • Prepare, compile and review plans, specifications, cost estimates and pay items in accordance with DOT standards.
  • Assume responsibility for assigned design calculation files and plans, assuring adequate independent QC reviews on that work.
  • Coordinate the above tasks with the Project/ Technical Manager
