Thornton Tomasetti, Inc., seeks Project Engineers - Structure in Milwaukee, WI: Design and analysis of structural elements in a variety of materials and systems, including reinforced concrete, post-tensioned concrete, steel and mass timber. Analysis will include the development of spreadsheets, other analytical tools, and commercial industry software; utilize ETABS / SAP/ SAFE / RAM / RAM Structural System / Enercalc / SConcrete / RAM Concept /RFEM /Grasshopper / and Excel for design and analysis. Utilize both local and international building codes, as well as industry design codes. Development of Construction Documents (e.g. drawings), and coordination with associated internal team members (e.g. BIM modelers). Perform construction administration services, including shop drawing review and analysis required to respond to RFIs, maintenance of CA logs, attend site-visits and creating associated field-reports, on assigned projects. Coordinate all job duties with internal project managers and team members. Communicates and coordinates with clients and consultants (e.g., architects and civil/mechanical/electrical/plumbing engineers) to ensure clear understanding of project goals and expectations. Sets clear direction and delegates tasks to others, including guidance to team members regarding TT design standards, design techniques, and overall quality; as well as back-checking the work of others to ensure quality and standards. Provide guidance and direction to junior staff for construction administration services. Communicate with external parties (e.g. contractors) on construction administration tasks and provide formal responses. Attend and participate in weekly staffing meetings. Recruits potential new hires. Conduct independent 3rd Party structural Peer Reviews. Independently develop presentation materials, including 3-dimensional renderings, for external client meetings; summarizing structural basis of design with the use of the following softwares: inDesign, Rhino, Grasshopper, Powerpoint. Clearly/succinctly convey structural system behaviors, framing diagrams, and performance criteria. Promotes TT’s services and reputation in the local and/or national markets by participating in appropriate industry, professional and community organizations.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field plus 2 years of experience in a related occupation.
  • 2 years of experience with the following: Analyzing building structures using computer modeling methods and preparing structural calculations; Designing and detailing structural members in steel, reinforced concrete, pre-stressed and post-tensioned concrete; Reviewing shop drawings and coordinating structural design for disciplines including mechanical, electrical engineering, and architecture; Visiting jobsites during construction and preparing revisions to structural design documents; and Utilizing software including SAP2000, ETABS, RAM, SAFE, PCA Software, Revit, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam Revu.
