About The Position

Openwork is hiring a Structural Fitter for a local manufacturing company in Houston, Texas. This temp-to-hire role offers a long-term opportunity for someone with welding experience seeking stability and career growth. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with some Saturdays as needed. Pay is $21–$26 per hour. The Structural Fitter reads blueprints and shop drawings, lays out and assembles structural steel and modular skids, prepares and welds components, handles materials and rigging, and performs finishing and quality checks. The role requires following shop safety procedures, OSHA regulations, and PPE protocols.

Requirements

At least 3 years of structural fitter experience.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Knowledge of shop safety in a manufacturing environment.
Knowledge of AWS D1 Standards.

Responsibilities

Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, diagrams, and engineering specifications to determine fitting sequence, weld joints, and dimensional tolerances.
Perform layout, cutting, burning, tacking, and alignment of structural steel shapes and modular skids using fitting and measuring equipment.
Operate cutting torches, plasma cutters, carbon arc gouging equipment, band saws, and pipe bevelers to contour, bevel, and prepare joints to code.
Weld carbon steel assemblies to AWS D1.1 structural standards using GMAW (MIG) and FCAW (Flux-Core) processes.
Safely rig components and operate shop overhead cranes and jib cranes to move and position heavy weldments.
Use pneumatic and electric angle grinders, wire wheels, and drills to clean spatter and prepare surfaces; ensure parts meet dimensional criteria.
Follow OSHA regulations, company standard operating procedures, and personal protective equipment protocols.
