About The Position

The Fitter Structural assembles and prepares steel components for industrial and commercial structures at Unite Contracting Solutions in Kenner, Louisiana. The role interprets blueprints, drawings, weld symbols, and fabrication specifications to lay out, position, and align metal parts before welding. Working with welders, supervisors, and other fabricators, the fitter helps turn raw materials into finished assemblies that meet project requirements and dimensional standards. Requirements

• Proven experience in structural steel fitting or fabrication in an industrial or construction setting.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and fabrication drawings.
• Proficiency with measuring instruments, hand tools, and layout equipment.
• Familiarity with cutting, grinding, and tack-welding techniques.
• Strong mathematical and spatial reasoning skills for accurate layout work.
• Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to established procedures.
• Capacity to lift heavy materials, stand for extended periods, and work in varied conditions.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret structural drawings, weld symbols, and fabrication specifications to determine fit-up requirements.
• Lay out, measure, and mark materials using measuring and layout tools.
• Position, align, and secure metal components with clamps, jigs, and fixtures before welding.
• Cut, grind, and bevel steel with torches, saws, and grinders to achieve proper fit.
• Tack-weld parts in place and verify alignment before final welding.
• Inspect fit-ups for dimensional accuracy and conformance to project specifications.
• Collaborate with welders and supervisors to resolve fit-up challenges.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and follow shop and site safety procedures.
• Operate overhead cranes, hoists, and rigging equipment to move heavy components safely.
