Structural Fitter Fabricator
About The Position
Performs duties required to plan, direct and participate in the layout, building and assembly of conveyor units, component parts and subassemblies. This role involves monitoring operations to ensure adherence to quality, proper methods and practices. The position also requires assisting employees, providing field service to customer plants to correct conveyor system breakdowns, and fabricating and fitting all types of parts by burning, hand cutting and grinding. Additionally, the role includes setting up machines and performing all phases and types of welding on conveyor parts, building and assembling all parts of conveyor systems by bolting, cotter pinning or welding parts together, and installing coolant piping, tanks and hydraulic lines. The job also entails occasional visits to customer plants to correct conveyor system breakdowns, operating forklift and overhead crane equipment, exercising proper care in the use of tools and equipment, detecting and reporting faulty equipment or materials, and maintaining a neat and orderly work area.
Requirements
- Must have or be able to obtain their AWS Certified Welder and D1.1 Structural Steel Endorsement certifications within 90-days.
- Requires AWS D1.1 vertical-up welding certification.
- Must have or be able to obtain AWS Certified Welder and AWS Structural Steel Endorsement.
- 5+ years of previous qualifying experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must have basic knowledge of shop math.
- Ability to read and interpret written information.
- Observes safety and security procedures; Reports potentially unsafe conditions; Uses equipment and materials properly.

Responsibilities

- Assist employees in the event of difficulties and instruct new employees in the proper performance of duties.
- Provide field service to customer plants to correct conveyer system breakdowns.
- Plan, direct and perform diversified duties required to lay out, build and assemble all types of conveyer units, component parts and sub-assemblies manufactured by the company.
- Check bills of material and interpret complex detail and assembly drawings to lay out and devise method and sequence of fabrication and assembly operations.
- Fabricate and fit all types of parts by burning, hand cutting and grinding.
- Set up machines and perform all phases and types of welding on conveyer parts.
- Build and assemble all parts of conveyer systems by bolting, cotter pinning or welding parts together.
- Install coolant piping, tanks and hydraulic lines.
- Make occasional visits to customer plants to correct conveyer system breakdowns.
- Use forklift equipment and floor controlled overhead crane equipment as necessary to move parts and materials; use care to lift and balance loads properly; operate equipment in a safe manner.
- Exercise proper care in the use of tools, equipment and materials.
- Detect and report faulty equipment, defective material, improper operations and unusual conditions to supervision.
- Maintain work area in a neat and orderly condition.
