About The Position

The Structural Field Engineer III is responsible for supporting Production by documenting changes, answering questions, and creating deck plate changes. This role ensures timely and accurate communication between Design Engineering and Production. The position involves exercising discretion by providing input to evaluations of Field Engineers I & II and directing, evaluating, and correcting their work. The role also requires liaising with Engineers, Production Personnel, Customers, Regulatory Bodies, Program Management, and Equipment Suppliers.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of shipyard design or construction experience OR 8 years with an Associate’s degree in Engineering.
  • Minimum of 10 years of production floor experience OR 6 years of experience in a supervisory capacity on the production floor OR Minimum 3 years Austal experience serving as a Field Engineer II.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Understanding of scheduling and an ability to adhere to strict deadlines.
  • Experienced in interacting with Production, all other internal/external customer representatives and equipment manufacturers.
  • Computer literate and familiar with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office products.
  • Knowledge of Maritime Regulatory Authorities (i.e. ABS, DNV, GL, HSNC, NVR, USCG, IMO, etc.).
  • Knowledge of vessel structural design.
  • Knowledge of ship and propulsion systems.
  • Knowledge of power distribution and lighting systems.
  • Knowledge of automation, control and communication systems.
  • Knowledge of IEEE and NEC.
  • Knowledge of lightweight aluminum joiner construction.
  • Knowledge of USPH requirements.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD clearance may be required.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Able to provide proof of US Person Status.
  • No felony convictions of Theft/Deception or Violent crimes within seven years from disposition date.
  • No felony convictions of Drug crimes within three years from disposition date.
  • Willing to submit to a drug screen.
  • Willing to submit to a background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor degree in an engineering discipline is a benefit.
  • Experience in the construction of high speed aluminum and/or Navy vessels is advantageous but not a requirement.
  • Knowledge of modular construction methods is advantageous but not a requirement.
