About The Position

Coffman Engineers is seeking a mid-level to senior-level Structural Engineer with a minimum of five to ten years of experience in the design of commercial, institutional, and industrial structures, including both new and existing construction, for their San Diego office. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, eager to collaborate and grow within a multidiscipline engineering team, and possess a positive attitude. This role involves performing project management duties, overseeing structural analysis, design, and detailing, and collaborating with architects, owners, and contractors to produce high-quality structural drawings. The engineer will also lead a team of engineers, designers, and drafters, ensuring effective communication throughout the design process.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience with the structural design of buildings or similar structures.
  • Licensed California Civil (PE) required.
  • Experience with structural computer analysis software systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Bluebeam.
  • Experience with the latest release of Autodesk Revit design tools.
  • Excellent leadership, supervisory, and writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain a strong team of professionals and support staff within a cooperative multidiscipline office performing at a high level of satisfaction to clients.
  • Possess strong critical thinking, organizational, and analytical abilities.
  • Excellent verbal, written, organizational, and time management skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in structural engineering preferred.
  • Licensed California Structural Engineer (SE) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform project management duties and oversee structural analysis, design, and detailing on a variety of projects.
  • Collaborate with the architect, owner, and contractor to provide a well-coordinated and high-quality set of structural drawings.
  • Lead a team of engineers, designers, and drafters to execute structural designs.
  • Meet with the project team to ensure effective communication flow during design.
