About The Position

Thomas & Hutton has an immediate opening for a motivated and driven Structural Engineer (PE) in Charleston, SC or Savannah, GA. The candidate will be involved in the design, drafting and construction services for a large variety of structures for both internal and external clients, public and private. Markets for structural services include industrial, commercial, municipal, marine, institutional, residential and energy. Structures may include, but are not limited to, treatment plants, marinas, bulkheads, piers, wharves, bridges, buildings, drainage and water control structures, pump stations, monuments, specialty equipment foundations, and more. Designs will predominantly include concrete, wood, structural steel, and masonry, although other materials such as cold formed metal framing, aluminum and fiber reinforced polymer may also be included.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of structural design experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, structural emphasis.
  • US PE Licensure required.
  • Experience with finite element modeling programs, primarily RISA.
  • Experience with Excel or Mathcad, Enercalc or Tedds.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency drafting with Revit required and experience with AutoCAD desired.
  • Ability to multi-task, appropriately prioritize workflow and complete tasks within budget.
  • Must be a self-starter and be able to work with team members.
  • Ability to perform field work for assessments and construction observation in a variety of environments.
  • Ability to solve problems and evaluate a variety of options.
  • Ability to periodically travel to other offices.
  • Excellent time management skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AutoCAD desired.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural analysis and design of a variety of structures.
  • Create construction documents, including drawings and specifications.
  • Perform structural condition assessments of existing structures and write reports.
  • Coordinate and work with other engineers and landscape architects during design.
  • Communicate and interact with clients and contractors periodically, providing high levels of client service.
  • Ensure project designs are completed in accordance with code requirements.
  • Perform construction services, including reports, site visits and responding to contractor questions.
