About The Position

Our client is a fully integrated electrical power system services firm delivering end‑to‑end solutions across utility, renewable energy, battery storage, industrial, petrochemical, and other critical infrastructure markets. Based in Houston, Texas, the company leverages deep subject‑matter expertise and an engineering‑led approach to designing, installing, testing, and maintaining medium‑ and high‑voltage electrical infrastructure for clients locally, nationally, and internationally. The Structural Engineer II is an experienced engineering professional responsible for performing structural analysis, design, and evaluation of substation and utility infrastructure projects with limited supervision. This role supports project execution, coordinates with multidisciplinary teams, and provides technical guidance to junior engineers and designers while ensuring compliance with applicable industry codes and company standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, or other relevant degree program, from an ABET accredited program is required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain PE within one year of hire.
  • Twelve (5) to (8) years of structural design experience is required; with experience with substation projects.
  • Strong knowledge of structural design principles, engineering calculations, and applicable building codes.
  • Working knowledge of ASCE 7, AISC, ACI 318, NESC, and IEEE standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet project deadlines.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
  • Experience with structural analysis software such as STAAD, RISA, SAP2000, ETABS, or similar programs.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural analysis and design of steel, concrete, and foundation systems for substation, BESS and utility projects.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, design reports, drawings, and specifications.
  • Develop structural designs in accordance with ASCE, AISC, ACI, NESC, and client requirements.
  • Coordinate with civil, electrical, and project management teams to ensure integrated project delivery.
  • Review drawings, calculations, and models prepared by junior engineers and designers.
  • Support construction activities by responding to RFIs, evaluating field conditions, and recommending solutions.
  • Conduct site visits, field investigations, and structural assessments as required.
  • Assist in developing project scopes, schedules, budgets, and engineering estimates.
  • Provide technical mentoring and guidance to Engineer I staff and designers.
  • Identify design improvements that enhance safety, constructability, and cost efficiency.
  • Maintain project documentation and ensure compliance with quality procedures.
  • Perform other job-related duties as requested by management.
