About The Position

This role involves collaborating with other designers and engineers to develop site designs, preparing site, support, or structure designs, and producing complex 3D designs for various civil and structural elements of energy infrastructure systems. The position requires proficiency in 3D modeling and drafting software, adherence to industry standards, and the ability to solve complex problems. The engineer will work under the guidance of senior staff, peer review technical drawings, and may assist in training or leading junior designers. Travel to field project locations is also a component of this role.

Requirements

  • Demonstrate the ability to perform all key requirements of a Civil Designer I.
  • Ability to solve complex problems and strive for innovative approaches to the design maturity process.
  • Advanced skills using AutoCAD Civil 3D and Autodesk family of products for 3D modeling and drafting.
  • Working knowledge in the field of energy infrastructure design.
  • Experience and working knowledge in site layout.
  • Experience working in multi-discipline projects.
  • Fluent computer/internet skills, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook.
  • Initiative in learning new skills and solving problems, and ability to adapt to changing needs quickly.
  • Ability to adhere to company and industry design and drafting standards.
  • Ability to communicate within a dynamic design team, often with contacts in other offices or locations.
  • The ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry, trigonometry, fractions, percentages, ratios & proportions to practical situations.
  • Two to five years of experience developing complex 2D and 3D designs in a related field, or equivalent knowledge.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable DMV record required.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency with Revit or other structural 3D software preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with other designers, engineers, and disciplines in the development of site design.
  • Read, interpret, and apply engineering terminology and symbols.
  • Develop preliminary sketches and designs based on early engineering efforts.
  • Prepare site, support, or structure designs from general instruction and/or preliminary sketches or diagrams.
  • Produce and/or modify complex 3D designs of grading, foundations, structures, supports, drainage systems, and other civil or structural elements of energy infrastructure systems.
  • Create surfaces, grading objects, alignments, profiles, and sections in Civil 3D.
  • Produce civil drawings and deliverables including site plans, grading plans, foundation location plans, profile and section views, foundation details, structural details, etc.
  • Generate cut/fill tables.
  • Produce swept path analysis to ensure vehicle and equipment access in accordance with project requirements.
  • Import and export various 3D formats in support of project needs (e.g., vendor models created using other software).
  • Create and maintain project Navisworks models for team review and collaboration.
  • Work primarily under the guidance and direction of Senior Designers, Engineers, and/or the Design & Drafting (D&D) Coordinator.
  • Adhere to company, client, and industry design and drafting standards.
  • Exercise discretion and judgment and apply design principles to meet project challenges.
  • Peer review technical drawings.
  • May be asked to assist in guidance, direction, and/or training of other designers.
  • May lead Designer I or Drafters on project-specific needs, under the direction and guidance of the D&D Coordinator or Senior Designers.
  • Attend and contribute to design review meetings as required.
  • Travel to field project locations with other designers or engineers to make field sketches, take dimensions, document as-built assemblies, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Communicate effectively and provide regular status updates.
  • Keep drawing lists and Teams tasks up to date.
  • Strive continually to complete all assigned tasks on time and within allocated budget.
