About The Position

This role is for an aspiring civil-structural design engineer or a soon-to-be engineering graduate seeking an opportunity to grow their career with hands-on mentorship and professional development. The position focuses on bridge and waterfront/marine structural design in the Anchorage, Alaska office. PND Engineers is committed to mentoring and guiding entry-level engineers to help them build a strong foundation for success.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (F.E.) exam or can do so within six months of hire.
  • A team-oriented mindset and a willingness to learn from experienced engineers.
  • Knowledge of basic structural principles and a desire to deepen understanding of design codes/standards and materials.
  • Strong communication skills, including technical writing.
  • Motivation to grow professionally and tackle new challenges.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally and participate in fieldwork.
  • A valid U.S. driver’s license, a good driving record, and vehicle insurance.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with structural analysis software (e.g., RISA 3D, SAP) and AutoCAD is helpful but not required—we’re ready to teach!

Responsibilities

  • Assist with structural load determination, perform calculations, and design various bridge and waterfront structures, including vehicle and pedestrian bridges, gangways and trestles, marine terminals, harbors and marinas, mooring and berthing structures, piers, wharves, bulkheads, and quays, and breakwaters and shore protection structures, under the guidance of experienced engineers.
  • Learn to develop construction drawings using AutoCAD with mentorship from senior staff.
  • Participate in inspections and condition assessments of existing structures.
  • Develop detailed technical reports with the support of your team.
  • Collaborate across disciplines such as site-civil design, surveying, geotechnical engineering, and permitting to broaden skill set and industry knowledge.
