About The Position

Aerodyne Industries is seeking a Structural Dynamics Engineer to join its team supporting NASA human spaceflight programs. The role performs structural dynamic analysis on spacecraft and lunar vehicles associated with programs including Orion, Gateway, Human Landing System, Commercial Crew Program, Lunar Terrain Vehicle, and Pressurized Rover. Duties may include finite element model checks and reductions, coupled loads analysis, vibroacoustic and modal analysis, processing analytical and test data, and correlating models with test results. The engineer may also develop simulation scripts and code, prepare or review test plans and procedures, and document test results. The position is part of the JETS II teammate company, Aerodyne, and may be filled at a level appropriate to the candidate’s experience, requirements, and business needs. A resume with employment dates in month-and-year format is required with the application. Proof of U.S. citizenship or permanent residency may be required, and the selected candidate must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree in Engineering and experience in the field or a related area.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience with desktop software applications; MS Office is required.
  • Experience in finite element model manipulation and coupled loads analysis.
  • Experience with Python, MATLAB, and/or C/C++.
  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship or U.S. permanent residency may be required.
  • Submit a resume with employment dates in month-and-year format with the application.

  • Experience or relevant coursework in Systems Engineering.
  • Experience or proficiency with Component Mode Synthesis and Craig-Bampton model reductions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform finite element model checks, dynamic model reductions, and coupled loads analysis, and interpret results.
  • Perform dynamic analyses using commercial and in-house codes; write simulation scripts and code, typically using Python, as needed.
  • Perform vibroacoustic analysis on finite element models in preparation for acoustic and random vibration tests.
  • Perform modal analysis on finite element models in preparation for modal tests.
  • Identify critical modes for components or integrated systems.
  • Review and process analytical and test modal and structural data.
  • Develop and/or review test plans and procedures, and document test results.
  • Perform signal processing on analytical and/or test data.
  • Correlate models by adjusting analytical models based on test data to better align them with actual hardware.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Maintain regular attendance and be able to work outside the normal schedule or adjust the schedule for peak periods and surge requirements.
