About The Position

Amentum is seeking a Spring 2027 Structural Dynamics Engineer intern to perform structural dynamic analysis on spacecraft and lunar vehicles across NASA human spaceflight programs, including Orion, Gateway, Human Landing System, Commercial Crew Program, Lunar Terrain Vehicle, and Pressurized Rover. This is a temporary role not to exceed 12 weeks. The intern will conduct finite element model checks, dynamic model reductions, coupled loads analysis, vibroacoustic analysis, and signal processing. The role also includes reviewing analytical and test data, identifying critical modes, developing or reviewing test plans and procedures, documenting results, and communicating findings to peers and management. Dynamic analyses use commercial and in-house codes; the intern may write simulation scripts and code, typically in Python. The position is generally based in an office environment, though work may occur inside or outside depending on the task. Work may involve extended periods sitting or standing and lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds. Standard office equipment is used. Regular attendance is critical, and the role may require schedule adjustments to meet peak periods and surge requirements. Proof of U.S. citizenship or permanent residency may be required, and the candidate must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited university and have completed at least 45 credit hours.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.8.
  • Be a Mechanical, Civil, or Aerospace Engineering student.
  • Coursework in Statics and Dynamics.
  • Working knowledge of Python, MATLAB, or C/C++.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience with desktop software applications; MS Office is required.
  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship or U.S. permanent residency may be required.

Nice To Haves

  • Working toward a BS or MS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Coursework in Finite Element Analysis, Linear Algebra, Structural Dynamics, Vibrations, Signal Processing, Data Analysis and Reporting, or Structural Analysis.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
  • Experience coding or scripting with Python, MATLAB, or C/C++.
  • Experience using FEA software and a pre/post-processor.
  • Experience with Unix/Linux.
  • Familiarity with version control methods such as GitLab or GitHub.

Responsibilities

  • Perform finite element model checks, dynamic model reductions, and coupled loads analysis; interpret and communicate results to peers and management.
  • Perform dynamic analyses using commercial and in-house codes; write simulation scripts and code as needed, typically using Python.
  • Perform vibroacoustic analysis on finite element models in preparation for acoustic and random vibration tests.
  • Identify critical modes for a component or integrated system.
  • Review and process analytical and test modal and structural data.
  • Develop and/or review test plans and procedures and document test results.
  • Perform signal processing on analytical and/or test data.

Benefits

  • Excellent personal and professional career growth.
  • 9/80 work schedule (every other Friday off), when applicable.
  • Onsite cafeteria with breakfast and lunch.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Paid time off and holidays.
