About The Position

This role is part of Blue Origin’s Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Moon landers and related products. The unit is building sustainable infrastructure to transport crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. The Principal Structural Analyst will analyze and critically review thermal/fluids and mechanical systems, including pumps, heat exchangers, valves, radiators, cold plates, liquid acquisition devices (LADs), helium cryocoolers, mechanical docking and separation systems, and gas storage. The role requires deep structural-analysis expertise and responsibility for the technical quality of delivered work. The analyst will serve as a Structural Integrity Lead (SIL) and collaborate with product team leads, project managers, and other functional teams to support lunar transportation systems. The position involves analysis using classical methods, first-principles approaches, finite element methods, 3D CAD, and FEA tools. The analyst will communicate technical findings and design concepts to stakeholders and customers and ensure alignment with project goals, GD&T standards, and environmental testing requirements.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 15+ years of experience in structural analysis, focused on modal, random vibration, static structural, fatigue, and damage tolerance analysis.
  • Experience as a Structural Integrity Lead or Delegate, or Analysis Lead.
  • Strong understanding of analysis fundamentals from first principles.
  • Ability to develop innovative solutions with partially defined requirements and changing criteria.
  • Excellent communication skills for conveying status, design and analysis concepts, and technical results.
  • Familiarity with 3D CAD modeling programs and FEA tools; Creo is preferred.
  • Familiarity with GD&T usage (ASME Y14.5).
  • Experience with environmental testing, including vibration, shock, and thermal cycle.
  • Must meet Blue Origin’s stated employment eligibility requirements: U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with recent versions of Creo, Windchill, ANSYS, ICEPAK, Sherlock, Abaqus, Matlab, and Altair Hyperworks.
  • Experience with fatigue analysis and fracture mechanics.
  • Knowledge of aerospace industry-standard analysis methods, including Bruhn, Marks’, Shigley, Steinberg, and Engelmeier.
  • Experience with environmental testing standards such as SMC-S-016, DO-160, and/or MIL-STD-810, including random vibration, shock, thermal cycle, TVAC, and EMI/RFI.
  • Enthusiasm for delivering near-term and long-term value, solving novel problems, learning new topics, and completing challenging projects.
  • Commitment to Blue Origin’s mission and vision of returning humans to the Moon and extending human presence beyond Earth.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed structural analysis of thermal/fluids and mechanical systems and assemblies using classical methods and finite element methods.
  • Perform static structural, modal, random vibration, fatigue, and damage tolerance analyses.
  • Apply first principles to solve complex structural analysis problems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align analysis outcomes with project goals.
  • Use 3D CAD modeling programs and FEA tools to perform analyses, including closed-form solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with GD&T standards (ASME Y14.5) and environmental testing requirements.
  • Prepare and present technical reports, design concepts, and analysis results to stakeholders and customers.
  • Operate as a Structural Integrity Lead (SIL) and support development of lunar transportation systems.
