About The Position

Leidos Defense Systems is hiring a Stress Analyst to support the design and analysis of aerospace and defense systems in Huntsville, Alabama. The role performs stress analysis using finite element models, simulations, calculations, and other engineering tools. The analyst works with design and manufacturing teams to develop high-performance structures that meet performance, manufacturability, and schedule requirements, and may support production installation, requirements verification, and hardware testing. This is an in-office position; schedule and work location have some flexibility, but remote work is the exception rather than the norm.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Less than 2 years of experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with a commercial finite element analysis tool, such as FEMAP/NX NASTRAN, PATRAN/MSC NASTRAN, ANSYS, or Abaqus.
  • Strong technical writing, presentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary engineering environment, either as part of a larger analysis team or as the sole analyst on a project.
  • U.S. citizenship and a current Final Secret Clearance, or eligibility to obtain and maintain one.
  • Residence in or willingness to relocate to the Huntsville, Alabama area.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or an equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university, with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
  • Advanced expertise in linear and nonlinear contact finite element analysis.
  • Experience applying nonlinear material properties to finite element analysis and hand calculations.
  • Integrated multiphysics analysis experience.
  • Bolted joint and weld analysis experience.
  • Dynamics analysis experience, including modal, response spectrum, shock, and vibration analyses.
  • Fatigue analysis experience.
  • Composite materials analysis experience.
  • Thermal analysis experience.

Responsibilities

  • Apply analytical methods, finite element models, simulations, and other engineering tools to develop models and perform structural and dynamic analyses.
  • Conduct engineering calculations, reduce test data, and correlate analysis results.
  • Partner with design and manufacturing teams to deliver structures that meet performance, manufacturability, and schedule requirements.
  • Collaborate with designers and use FEMAP to help ensure designs meet requirements.
  • Support production activities, including hardware installation and requirements verification, and collaborate with testing teams to put hardware into action.
