About The Position

The Strength and Conditioning Coach is a key member of the UAMS Orthopedics and Sports Medicine interdisciplinary care team. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing individualized performance training programs for athletes and patients. Collaborating closely with physical therapists, athletic trainers, and physicians, the coach supports seamless transitions from rehabilitation to peak athletic performance, ensuring optimal outcomes across the care continuum. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in kinesiology, exercise science, or related field w/ a minimum of seven (7) years of demonstrated experience designing and delivering strength and conditioning programs in a clinical, collegiate, professional, or performance sports setting OR Master's degree in kinesiology, exercise science, or related field w/ a minimum of five (5) years of demonstrated experience designing and delivering strength and conditioning programs in a clinical, collegiate, professional, or performance sports setting
  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) required
  • CPR/AED certified
  • Expert knowledge of strength and conditioning methodologies, including Olympic lifting, powerlifting, and functional movement assessment.
  • Proficiency in performance monitoring technologies and data-driven program adjustment
  • Working knowledge of sports nutrition principles and recovery modalities
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse patient and athlete population, as well as interdisciplinary clinical staff.
  • Knowledge of NCAA and applicable governing body regulations as they relate to athlete training and eligibility
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage concurrent caseloads in a fast-paced clinical environment
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe, inclusive, and professional training environment in alignment with UAMS values
  • This position requires the ability to demonstrate and instruct exercise techniques, including lifting, spotting, and physical movement coaching
  • The incumbent must be able to stand, walk, bend, and physically assist patients for extended periods
  • Must have the ability to lift and move equipment, 50-100 pounds

Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee strength, speed, and conditioning programs tailored to the specific needs of athletes and patients.
  • Ensure all programming is evidence-based, aligned with UAMS clinical standards, and incorporates current research and best practices in sports science and rehabilitative conditioning.
  • Partner with physical therapists, athletic trainers, and physicians to support seamless transitions from rehabilitation to full athletic performance.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary care planning and provide regular updates on patient progress.
  • Provide expert coaching on proper exercise techniques, including Olympic lifting, powerlifting, and functional movement patterns.
  • Deliver instruction that maximizes performance outcomes while minimizing risk across diverse athletic and patient populations.
  • Use technology platforms and manual testing protocols to track and evaluate patient progress, including strength gains, mobility, and recovery metrics.
  • Analyze data to adjust programs and share outcomes with the interdisciplinary team as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of patient progress, attendance, and program modifications within required systems, including clinical electronic medical records (EMR), in accordance with UAMS documentation standards.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and functional training environment.
  • Ensure equipment is properly maintained and all training activities comply with UAMS safety protocols and applicable regulations (e.g., NCAA).
  • Educate athletes and patients on recovery strategies, foundational nutritional principles, and long-term physical development to support a holistic approach to health and performance.
  • Develop and deliver educational materials aligned with clinical recommendations.
