About The Position

Venesco LLC is seeking a Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach to join a multidisciplinary team focused on optimizing soldier readiness and performance within the Army’s Holistic Health and Fitness (H2F) System. This leadership role involves onboarding staff and guiding H2F teams nationwide, disseminating best practices in strength and conditioning. The H2F System is designed to enhance soldier readiness, physical and non-physical performance, reduce injuries, improve rehabilitation, and increase overall effectiveness. The work environment is primarily military training settings, including fitness centers, outdoor areas, ranges, and field training environments. The coach will observe unit training events to provide forward musculoskeletal (MSK) care, minimize lost training time, and ensure early injury identification. The role addresses the high incidence of overuse injuries common in the Army, similar to those in athletics, by providing forward MSK care, increasing physical resiliency, and offering early intervention and performance optimization services.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree from an accredited exercise science, health science, or physical education-related discipline.
  • Passing score from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCA) as a Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC).
  • Five years of relevant SCC work experience (recent experience preferred) with individual athletes and groups at NCAA Collegiate, Olympic, and/or professional sports levels.
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross with Automated External Defibrillators (AED) certification. Certification cards must display the American Heart Association or American Red Cross emblem. Web-based classes are not accepted.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English effectively.
  • Ability to teach effectively in indoor classroom and field training settings, presenting standardized instruction and creative workshops.
  • Experience in developing course content of similar scope and complexity.
  • Experience and ability to obtain desired learning outcomes through well-facilitated and engaging instruction.
  • Interpersonal relationship skills and social sensitivity to relate to diverse Soldiers.
  • Ability to operate a personal or Government computer utilizing Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, MS Teams).
  • Capable of properly lifting and manipulating loads or weights up to 45 pounds.
  • Ability to meet physical demands of training in all weather conditions with Soldiers, including hiking over rough terrain and functioning in austere environments.
  • Participate in Government-based education and in-service training as mandated.
  • Participate in continuing education programs to meet renewal requirements for licenses or certifications.
  • Maintain current certification/licensing requirements as required by the contract.
  • Not have been convicted of a felony.

Nice To Haves

  • NSCA Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach (RSCC) designation.
  • Previous experience within the military environment.
  • Recertification shall be maintained in a current status at all times while the SCC is performing services under this contract.
  • Elective continuing education opportunities occurring on the installation may be extended to the SCC as non-billable time.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and communicate necessary actions for establishing and administering effective strength and conditioning training programs to maximize physical performance and reduce MSK injuries in BDE personnel.
  • Complete specific tasks outlined in the PWS and perform services in accordance with the NSCA as a CSCS or the SCCC through the CSCCA Scope of Practice.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary HIT and BDE H2F Performance Team to educate and train beneficial approaches to Soldier readiness and care holistically.
  • Instruct and adjust physical training approaches based on Soldier health, BDE mission, and training calendar, integrating care into the unit's battle rhythm.
  • Ensure understanding of the Soldier's role as an integrated member of the BDE and how strength and conditioning coaching within the brigade enhances unit cohesion.
  • Teach how to establish influence and build beneficial relationships to advocate for the H2F team and promote optimal unit readiness to leaders.
  • Participate in in-person or virtual pre-implementation planning meetings to prepare strength and conditioning plans based on unit assessments.
  • Disseminate prerequisite information and tasks for BDE leaders and the BDE H2F Performance Team, including pre-briefs, data analysis, content verification, and cultural reviews.
  • Create or modify H2F implementation content based on unit needs assessments, subject to Government approval.
  • Attend implementation site visits with the HIT to deliver the standardized H2F implementation plan and optimize the BDE H2F Performance Team's execution within the unit's training schedule and culture.
  • Participate in post-implementation meetings to reinforce, supplement, and clarify H2F System standards and practices.
  • Participate in virtual H2F implementation and support programming for COMPO 1/2/3 units.
  • Attend periodic meetings with the HIT PD and team members to report on H2F System implementation efforts related to physical training programs and provide recommendations for enhancement.
  • Track and document questions, concerns, and comments from discussions with BDE H2F Performance Teams and leaders, recommending H2F System improvements.
  • Educate and train tactics and strategies for developing and executing strength and conditioning programs in accordance with FM 7-22 Holistic Health and Fitness.
  • Provide instruction on how H2F performance teams build cohesive teams, enhance readiness, and deliver strength and conditioning training with an emphasis on injury prevention and recovery.
  • Provide recommended instruction and guidance to BDE leadership and H2F Performance Teams on physical strength and conditioning and injury prevention per FM 7-22 Holistic Health and Fitness.
