About The Position

This position participates in the repair and maintenance of city streets, drainage systems, and related infrastructure. Work includes street maintenance labor, operation and upkeep of equipment, tools, and vehicles, and other assigned public works tasks. Work is performed under somewhat general instructions and is spot-checked by a supervisor. The role involves contacts with coworkers and the general public to resolve problems and provide services. Work may be performed in an office or outdoors, including in cold or inclement weather, and may involve exposure to noise, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts. Protective devices such as masks, goggles, and gloves are required as appropriate. No supervisory responsibility is assigned.

Requirements

No experience is required.
Possess or be able to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
Knowledge of street construction and maintenance principles.
Knowledge of work safety principles and practices.
Knowledge of street maintenance equipment operation and maintenance principles.
Skill in the use of construction equipment.
Skill in the use of hand and power tools.
Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations.

Commercial Driver’s License preferred.

Responsibilities

Perform laboring tasks to repair and maintain city streets and drainage systems.
Patch holes with asphalt and smooth and level asphalt.
Weed-eat and mow grass on rights-of-way.
Collect litter and debris along roadways.
Flag traffic at work sites.
Operate, clean, and maintain equipment, tools, and vehicles.
Operate hand and power tools.
Clean and restock park restrooms.
Assist with installation and maintenance of street signs.
Collect yard debris.
Accompany a refuse truck to collect household waste as assigned.
Perform related duties.
