About The Position

Semi-skilled manual work in maintaining and repairing streets, sidewalks, storm drains, catch basins and swale areas. Work is performed under general supervision and may require employee to operate motor vehicles and power driven equipment. Does related work as required.

Requirements

• High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
• One (1) year construction experience including six (6) months in concrete or asphalt construction.
• Must obtain Level I, I.M.S.A. certification within one year of date of hire.
• Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License, Class B, CDL, with Air Brake endorsement, within six months from hire.
• Ability to respond to supervision, guidance and direction of superiors in a positive, receptive manner and in accordance with stated policies.
• Appropriately groomed and attired so as to present a professional image in accordance with the organization's mission, goals, and policies.
• Report for work promptly and properly prepared at the time and place required by the assignment or orders.
• Notify the appropriate supervisor of intended absences in accordance with stated rules.
• Conform with standards and rules regarding use of accrued time.
• Demonstrate a polite, helpful and courteous manner when engaged in any activity with the public.
• Operate and care for equipment to manufacturer's specifications and/or within the specified parameters.
• Demonstrate an understanding, consideration, and respect of cultural, religious, and gender differences when interacting with the public and colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Removes broken and cracked concrete.
• Forms, grades, pours and finishes concrete; strips forms.
• Cuts and removes damaged asphalt.
• Levels ground with rock and replaces with hot asphalt and rolls it with a roller.
• Grades shell rock roads using loader or tractor with box blade.
• Cuts and re-sods swale areas.
• Repairs, maintains and constructs storm drains using power tools and heavy equipment.
• Cleans up canals.
• Maintains and services equipment.
