This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union. The department for this role is Maintenance & Operations. The work hours vary with winter operations, but are generally Monday to Sunday, 06:00 to 19:30. Employees hired or rehired will be placed at the entrance pay step, with advancement based on successive steps. Remote work schedule opportunities may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head, though not all positions are eligible. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States, as the Municipality of Anchorage cannot provide sponsorship. The role involves receiving and documenting complaints and requests for service, providing information to the public and other agencies about Street Maintenance activities, dispatching personnel, and resolving issues through research and referral. The position is responsible for opening and closing the Street Maintenance Dispatch Center and handles heavy telephone traffic, requiring diplomacy and proper telephone etiquette. The dispatcher must be able to send prompt and accurate information to Street Maintenance Crews and ROW enforcement officers via radio, paging devices, written messages, and telephone. Additionally, the role requires utilizing GIS systems to update real-time public maps and training Street Maintenance personnel on tablet device usage for work entry. Other duties may be assigned.
