About The Position

As a member of the CRRD HQ team, you will enable the IRC to put its strategy into action. Strategy & Performance roles in CRRD work on a variety of projects, ranging from leading, coordinating, facilitating, enabling and tracking our annual planning and risk management processes, evaluating donor policy changes and their potential impact on our teams or compliance approach, supporting program quality or financial audit processes, to supporting internal communications and healthy leadership practices across international teams. In this role you will coordinate strategic projects independently and work closely with the Strategy Leads in each of the department’s four pillars – Program Delivery, Technical Excellence, the Emergencies Unit, and the Awards Management Unit – to own and advance critical strategic planning and performance tracking. You will be an essential team member helping IRC deliver greater impact for those who we work with and serve, including more than 20 million people worldwide affected by conflict and crisis. The Strategy Officer will provide planning and problem-solving support to the department on internal cross-pillar and cross-departmental projects. The position requires strong strategic problem-solving skills, excellent interpersonal skills, a high level of personal initiative and the ability to work well in a distributed, multicultural, dynamic environment. The role sits within the Crisis Response Recovery & Development department, IRC’s humanitarian and development programming department working across more than 30 countries.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Approximately 3-5 years of relevant work experience, at least two of which in a strategy or organizational performance role, with gradually increasing responsibilities and a track record of high performance
  • Demonstrated Skills and Competencies: Experience driving strategic change
  • Capability to handle multiple demands in short time frames
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills; proven track record of prioritizing and delivering on time
  • Proven attention to detail and strong analytical skills
  • Competent in structuring and creatively solving sophisticated problems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as an overall ability to be clear and concise in all communications
  • Strong meeting facilitation and presentation skills
  • Experience working effectively with partners at all levels
  • Highly collaborative and able to work independently in a dynamic, cross-functional distributed team structure
  • Ability to respond enthusiastically and positively to ambiguity, be resilient to shifting priorities and setbacks, and be comfortable with imperfect analysis and solutions
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office suite

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a strategy role at either a strategy consulting firm, or in the strategy function of a global organization
  • Experience in a humanitarian or development organization, or similar
  • Knowledge of French, Arabic or Spanish

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate a substantive workstream within larger strategic initiatives, or manage smaller standalone projects, under the guidance of the Sr. Director or another Sr. Director / Director for Strategy & Performance within the department (CRRD)
  • Produce high-quality analyses to inform strategic decision-making, including financial analysis, data visualization, and portfolio assessments (e.g., sectoral spend, award distribution, geographic trends)
  • Synthesize insights from diverse stakeholder groups to identify lessons learned and drive continuous improvement
  • Apply structured problem-solving to ambiguous, complex challenges, framing key questions and identifying actionable solutions
  • Conduct targeted analytical deep-dives, including: Regional trends and portfolio shifts, Program performance against external and internal standards (e.g., Core Humanitarian Standard), Knowledge management challenges and opportunities, Organizational mapping and stakeholder analysis across teams with overlapping mandates
  • Drive execution of strategic projects from initiation through delivery, ensuring timelines, outputs, and stakeholder alignment are achieved
  • Manage relationships and collaborate closely with mid-level and senior staff across the organization
  • Facilitate decision-making and consensus-building across cross-functional teams
  • Translate analytical insights into clear, actionable plans, including implementation roadmaps and process improvements
  • Coordinate or support cross-cutting initiatives, including: Socializing and tracking progress against our annual objectives and key results metrics, Addressing time and effort tracking and cost-competitive budget challenges, Coordinating and prioritizing senior leadership travel and C-suite country visits, Providing surge support to CRRD HQ teams on high-priority or emergent projects
  • Coordinate with and/or act as trip lead for SVP, CRRD global engagements, including serving as the focal point for work with country and regional teams, global policy & advocacy teams, fundraisers, and donor relationship leads to assemble agendas, talking points, and determine the trip flow
  • Partner with CRRD internal and external communications/policy leadership to ensure communications are effectively developed and synchronized
