About The Position

At August, we are building the autopilot for legal services. Today, legal work is done the way it has been done for a century — manually, by humans, in six-minute increments. Every contract drafted from scratch. Every memo researched line by line. Every matter running through layers of review that someone is paying for at hundreds of dollars an hour. That is about to change. We believe that in five years, more than 80% of legal work will pass through a model before it ever reaches a human. The implication is not faster lawyers — it is a fundamentally different way that legal services get bought and procured. Fixed prices replace billable hours. Verifiable quality replaces "trust me." The buyer side of the market gets to negotiate against a different reality entirely. Our mission is to make high-quality legal work accessible and affordable for everyone. We are going after the services spend, not the software spend — helping law firms restructure their delivery model around AI, and helping in-house teams do the same. One engine of agents and workflows underneath every matter we touch. We are an small, in-person based in New York City, backed by leading investors and growing fast. Every role at August is a chance to remake an industry while the window is open.

Requirements

  • 2–4 years of experience in strategy consulting, operations, BizOps, finance, or a high-performance startup in a Strategy & Ops or Chief-of-Staff seat.
  • Demonstrated ability to take an ambiguous brief and run it without supervision. You see things falling on the floor and pick them up before being asked.
  • AI-native operating fluency. AI is not a tool you sometimes use; it is how you operate. You can show us automations, agents, or internal tools you have built for yourself — not just used.
  • Comfort with commercial deal structure — enough to hold your own in a rev-share or partnership negotiation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication. You can synthesize messy input into a clear plan and defend it when challenged.
  • Excitement about working in person at our NYC office, with a team that values precision, pace, and constant reinvention.

Nice To Haves

  • Priority given to former founders and people who can show us things they have shipped.

Responsibilities

  • Build and own August's operating cadence — the weekly product-to-GTM digest, the sales-to-product loop, the monthly metrics review, and the dashboards that make all of it self-running as we scale.
  • Source, structure, and close commercial partnerships across two audiences. Integration partners that embed August in the legal tech stack, typically through rev-share negotiations that need to be closed before any technical work ships. Distribution partners that route legal work toward us — including industry consultants, bar associations, insurance carriers and brokers, and industry bodies.
  • Run two-week strategic sprints on whatever is highest-leverage that month — pricing for new practice areas, jurisdiction expansion, scoping new partnership profiles, modeling new sales motions.
  • Partner with product, engineering, GTM, and the legal team to take ambiguous founder priorities, build what needs to exist, and hand finished systems to long-term owners.
  • Track and report on partnership performance and operational metrics, surfacing insights that drive decisions in real time.

Benefits

  • Competitive base + commission
  • Early equity ownership
