About The Position

Red Metals is rethinking the domestic copper supply chain at a pivotal moment in American industry. Copper underpins electrification, data centers, and defense systems. U.S. demand already exceeds domestic supply, and the gap is widening as grid modernization, the energy transition, and buildout of AI infrastructure accelerate. We are building a new model for this critical industrial layer in the United States. The Role We are hiring our first finance team member to build the finance backbone of Red Metals. You will be responsible for building and operating core financial systems of the company. This means building models, setting up reporting and accounting, and working directly with the CEO on capital allocation, fundraising, and investor communication.

Requirements

  • Degree in Finance or related field, or equivalent hands-on experience demonstrating finance capability
  • 3-8+ years finance experience, ideally in metals, mining, refining, or heavy industry
  • Background in investment banking, private equity, venture, or operating finance (FP&A, strategic finance), with a strong bias toward hands-on operators
  • Experience with manufacturing, industrial operations, or project finance
  • Strong modeling skills with an ability to translate messy inputs into clear financial outputs
  • Comfortable with both high-level strategy and low-level execution, including building models one hour and reconciling accounts the next
  • Ability to communicate clearly with both operators and investors
  • Ability to operate with incomplete information and make sound decisions quickly
  • Demonstrated ability or potential to lead projects or teams in a fast-moving environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with trading, hedging, or other commodity-related financial instruments
  • Experience building or scaling a finance function at an early-stage company or startup
  • Experience supporting capital raises or managing investor relationships
  • Familiarity with project finance, equipment finance, or working capital structures
  • Startup or early-stage experience

Responsibilities

  • Refine and own the company financial model, including operating model, unit economics, and scenario analysis
  • Translate early operations into forward-looking financial plans
  • Produce regular analysis, including board-level materials
  • Stand up accounting and close processes, using external partners where appropriate
  • Own cash management, burn tracking, and capital planning
  • Work directly with the CEO and operating team on capital allocation decisions
  • Support fundraising efforts, including investor materials and diligence
  • Assist with tax, compliance, and regulatory filings, coordinating with external advisors
  • Identify and implement tools and automation to improve speed, accuracy, and visibility
  • Act as a utility player across finance, stepping in where needed as the business evolves
