About The Position

The Strategic Account Manager is responsible for managing and growing a portfolio of high-value shipper accounts within a freight brokerage environment. This role focuses on long-term customer partnerships, revenue growth, and delivering optimized transportation solutions across multiple modes.

Requirements

  • Freight brokerage environment experience
  • Experience managing and growing high-value shipper accounts
  • Ability to develop and execute account growth plans
  • Skill in identifying new business opportunities
  • Proficiency in monitoring and analyzing account performance (KPIs)
  • Experience collaborating with internal teams (carrier sales, operations, customer service)
  • Ability to proactively resolve service issues and provide continuous improvement recommendations
  • Knowledge of market trends, capacity conditions, and pricing fluctuations
  • Problem-solving skills related to capacity, service failures, and cost optimization
  • Negotiation skills for carrier rates
  • Experience sourcing and securing carrier capacity
  • Ability to manage daily load coverage
  • Experience maintaining accurate data in TMS systems

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned strategic accounts
  • Develop and execute account growth plans to increase revenue, margin, and share of wallet
  • Identify new business opportunities within existing accounts (lanes, modes, services)
  • Monitor and analyze account performance (KPIs such as on-time delivery, cost, and service levels)
  • Collaborate with internal teams (carrier sales, operations, customer service) to ensure service excellence
  • Proactively resolve service issues and provide continuous improvement recommendations
  • Stay informed on market trends, capacity conditions, and pricing fluctuations
  • Solve problems proactively—capacity issues, service failures, cost optimization
  • Negotiate competitive rates with carriers while maintaining profit margins
  • Source and secure carrier capacity for open freight shipments
  • Manage daily load coverage to ensure all shipments are booked and executed on time
  • Maintain accurate load and carrier data in TMS systems
