About The Position

Lucasfilm Animation Ltd. is seeking a Floater Storyboard Artist who embodies innovation, creativity, and a passion for filmmaking. This role involves collaborating with writers, story artists, and directors to visually narrate stories within a 3D computer graphics environment. The artist will interpret screenplays and revision notes to set up scenes and cameras in 3D, explore scene possibilities, capture shots with 3D camera setups, and edit them into movies for story reel submission. The Floater may also act as a Story Revisionist, potentially working on multiple episodes, and must be adept at solving story problems in a fast-paced setting. This position requires the artist to be located in the San Francisco Bay Area and is considered Hybrid, involving both onsite work in the San Francisco office and occasional remote work.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in feature film or television production, or equivalent experience.
  • Reel containing examples of work in live-action or animated film that exhibits a strong emphasis on visual storytelling, including staging, composition, and editing.
  • Competency in 2D storyboarding, or comparable form.
  • Must be confident working extensively with computers.
  • Located in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Film, Animation, or Fine Arts.
  • Experience with using 3D animation software.
  • Acting out the scene while working on it for the enjoyment of your coworkers.

Responsibilities

  • Convey the narrative through visual storytelling techniques in a 3D computer graphics environment.
  • Work directly from screenplays and revision notes to set up the stage and cameras in a 3D environment.
  • Explore the possibilities of each scene, capture them as shots with 3D camera setups, and edit their work together as movies for submission to the show's story reel.
  • At times work as a Story Revisionist, as needs arise, often working on multiple episodes.
  • Handle composition, screen direction, camera angles, staging, posing, pace, and timing, ensuring it maintains and fulfills the storypoint.
  • Deliver final 3D camera setups to downstream production departments.
  • Participate in special projects and initiatives, leveraging unique skills in photography, camera, and visual arts to push the boundaries of storytelling in CG animation.
