About The Position

This role involves performing maintenance and repair work on the City's drainage facilities, channels, ditches, rights-of-way, inlets, culverts, pipes, and related assets to ensure they are safe, accessible, and functioning correctly. Responsibilities include vegetation management, debris removal, minor erosion repair, routine inspection support, equipment operation, and assisting with construction and storm-response activities. The position offers different levels (I, II, III) with increasing responsibility, skill requirements, and experience expectations.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
For Worker I: No experience necessary.
For Worker II: Minimum of one year of experience in street, drainage, construction, utility, grounds, or related municipal maintenance, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
For Worker II: Two (2) years of experience operating trucks, trailers, tractors, mowing equipment, or similar construction and maintenance equipment.
For Worker III: Minimum of three years of experience in street, drainage, construction, utility, grounds, or related municipal maintenance, including at least two years performing drainage maintenance or closely related work; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
For Worker III: Minimum of two years of experience operating heavy construction or maintenance equipment such as loaders, tractors, skid-steer loaders, backhoes, excavators, dump trucks, or similar equipment.
Must have a Class "C" Texas driver's license with good driving record (for Worker I, with ability to obtain Class "A" within 6 months).
Must possess and maintain a valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with an acceptable driving record (for Worker II and III).
Must possess and maintain a Tanker Endorsement (for Worker II and III).
Must possess a City approved Work Zone Safety Certificate (for Worker III).
Must complete City-required Excavation and Trenching Safety training (for Worker III).

Nice To Haves

Municipal drainage maintenance experience is preferred (for Worker II).
City approved Work Zone Safety Certificate preferred (for Worker II).

Responsibilities

Perform maintenance and repair work on drainage facilities, channels, ditches, rights-of-way, inlets, culverts, pipes, and related assets.
Manage vegetation, including mowing.
Remove debris from drainage systems.
Perform minor erosion repairs.
Provide support for routine inspections.
Operate vehicles and equipment such as trucks, trailers, tractors, loaders, mowing equipment, skid-steer loaders, backhoes, and excavators.
Assist with construction and storm-response activities.
Independently operate assigned vehicles and equipment.
Identify maintenance needs and potential drainage problems.
Perform minor repairs to drainage systems.
Assist with complex drainage construction and rehabilitation.
Evaluate drainage conditions and determine appropriate corrective work.
Interpret plans and grades.
Estimate materials for drainage projects.
Serve as a senior member of drainage maintenance and emergency-response crews.
Provide technical direction, task leadership, and training to assigned employees.
