Maintenance Worker - Stormwater
About The Position
A Stormwater Maintenance Worker performs general manual work and semi-skilled labor to maintain the City’s stormwater system. This position is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair, and upkeep of City stormwater drainage system. It also includes performing duties such as mowing, trimming, debris removal, working with other departments on various needs, and general construction. The position ensures that the City’s stormwater system functions properly. This position is designated as “essential personnel” and may serve as a member of the Emergency Management Team, required to report for duty during emergencies, natural disasters, or other critical events.
Requirements
- Knowledge of grounds maintenance and general maintenance tasks and procedures
- Knowledge of methods and procedures related to the installation, maintenance and repair of stormwater infrastructure
- Knowledge of and skill in the use of common hand tools and mechanical equipment
- Knowledge of safety rules and regulations
- Skilled in the operation and maintenance of equipment and tools related to the position
- Ability to operate light and heavy equipment safely and effectively
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and written
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor under adverse weather conditions
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions
- Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public and co-workers
- Ability to access, input and retrieve information from a computer
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must possess a valid Florida's driver's license.
Nice To Haves
- Two (2) years of related manual labor and/or groundskeeping experience is preferred
- Experience with Stormwater is preferred
- Experience using heavy equipment is preferred
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred, or the ability to obtain a CDL within six (6) months is required.
Responsibilities
- Operate specialized vehicles and equipment including tractors, skid steers, loaders, dump trucks, backhoes, Gradall excavator, vac trucks, and track hoe for maintenance tasks
- Use hand and power tools to clear vegetation and debris
- Supports pre-storm preparation and post storm cleanup efforts, including sandbagging and debris removal
- Respond to work orders, citizen concerns, and emergency maintenance requests
- Assist other departments or crews as needed
- Maintains equipment and tools
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections
- Regular in-person attendance during City and department business hours, since face-to-face interaction and coordination of work with other employees, outside colleagues, residents, or vendors, and all immediate access to documents or other information located in the workplace is required
- Performs general inspection, maintenance, and repair of the City’s stormwater system, including pipes, drainage structures, ditches, swales, underdrains, ponds, and creeks.
- Assists with the installation, repair, and maintenance of stormwater infrastructure and drainage improvements.
- Remove debris, sediment, and blockages to ensure proper water flow and prevent flooding
- Operate and maintain light to heavy equipment such as vacuum trucks, backhoes, mini-excavators, and dump trucks
- Use hand and power tools for digging, cutting, and clearing vegetation or debris
- Conduct visual inspections of stormwater systems and report issues such as erosion, illicit discharges, or structural damage
