About The Position

The Vegetation/Stormwater Maintenance Worker performs a variety of routine and semi-skilled activities in the preservation of City-owned rights-of-way. A majority of the work performed (75%) is in vegetation control which includes mowing, weeding, edging, litter pick-up, and tree maintenance. The position also includes stormwater construction and maintenance of drainage infrastructure and right-of-way maintenance in the off season. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Stormwater/Vegetation Supervisor and does not have supervisory responsibilities. This position is designated as safety sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol screening.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Valid Oklahoma driver license with good driving record, and "Class B" CDL certification or the ability to obtain CDL certification within six months of hire
  • Ability to perform manual labor over an extended period of time and in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to lift weight related to maintenance operations, 80 pounds unassisted
  • Ability to follow instructions, safety rules and procedures
  • Ability to perform effectively in a team or individual work environment

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer experience operating zero-turn mowers, trimmers and other tools
  • Prefer one year construction related experience
  • Prefer Herbicide applicator and irrigation experience

Responsibilities

  • Vegetation control – operate mowers, weed trimmers, edging tools, sometimes for extended periods of time
  • Tree Maintenance – operate various mechanical saws and trimmers
  • Drainage maintenance including cleaning clogged storm drains
  • Fence repairs
  • Litter and debris pick-up
  • Small construction projects
  • Drive trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment, pipe, gravel, dirt and sand
  • Share "On-Call" responsibility for emergency call-out situation
  • Perform other duties as assigned in a positive manner which supports the vision and strategic objectives of the division/department and the entire organization of the City of Owasso
