About The Position

The State of Connecticut, Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS) invites applicants to apply for a part-time Storekeeper position. The position is based in Hartford, at CTECS Central Office. However, this classification may require the incumbent to travel to various locations throughout the district to fulfill duties. This is a part-time (35 hours/week) position, first shift, Monday-Friday 7:30am-3:00pm. Permanent part-time employees are eligible for benefits and accrue paid time off in accordance with the number of hours worked. In your role as a Storekeeper, you will be responsible for tracking inventory, performing physical counts, reconciling data, and preventing overstock or shortages. You will also record all stock movements using inventory software, process invoices, and generate consumption reports. Additionally, you will receive, store, tag and track surplus property, and prepare property lists for items to be sold at auction. CTECS serves approximately 11,200 full-time high school students, with upgraded state-of-the-art classrooms and industry-standard equipment in every shop, giving students a well-rounded, 21st century education. For over 100 years, CTECS has been the leading force in Career Technical Education (CTE) in the State of Connecticut, operating 17 diploma-granting technical high schools, one technical education center and two airframe mechanics and aircraft maintenance programs. The school system provides a direct employment pipeline for high school students and adult learners.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of experience in stock or warehouse work or closely related work that could reasonably be expected to provide the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above.
  • Knowledge of the methods of requisitioning, handling, storing and issuing of materials and supplies; safe and efficient warehousing practices including purchasing.
  • Interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to keep accurate stock records and inventories; utilize computer software.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required by the appointing authority to possess and retain appropriate current licenses, permits and/or certifications.
  • Incumbents in this class must be willing to accept assignment to emergency duties, including snow and ice removal, whenever their services are required.
  • Incumbents in this class must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility and visual and auditory acuity, and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties.
  • A physical examination may be required.
  • May be required to lift moderate to heavy weights.
  • May be exposed to weather conditions.
  • May be required to handle hazardous materials/chemicals.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience performing purchasing, receiving, storing, issuing, or inventory control duties in a warehouse, facilities, retail, or educational environment.
  • Experience maintaining inventory records or using basic inventory systems, including data entry for tracking materials.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Outlook, to support recordkeeping and communication.
  • Valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Tracking inventory, performing physical counts, reconciling data, and preventing overstock or shortages.

  • Receiving and issuing stock and maintains records of receipts, requisitions, and stock on hand.
  • Arranges stock in planned fashion, with due account taken of age, accessibility, safety and security.
  • Clarifies amount and condition of stock on hand and reports all discrepancies or need for replenishment.
  • Verifies quantity and quality of incoming supplies against invoices, dray bills, bills of lading and orders.
  • Maintains housekeeping and security of stores area.
  • Takes required inventory of materials and supplies.
  • Receives gas station reports and makes necessary corrections.
  • Keeps mileage and maintenance records of vehicles in car pool.
  • Inspects material handling equipment, scales, gas pumps and other allied storeroom equipment for accuracy and safety.
  • Codes and inventories furniture and equipment.
  • Operates material handling equipment.
  • May perform purchasing functions for inventory item stock replenishment.
  • May drive motor vehicles as assigned.
  • May enter data into a computer.
  • Performs related duties as required.
